RAW MATERIALS

Monday October 2, 2023 at 7 PM

RawMaterials is a joint showcase of two artists, variating and revisiting the old eastern legend of G0LEM in a feral and contemporary manner, comprising moving images and sculpture.

The original tale tells the story of a Cabalistic mystic who created a humanoid being out of shapeless form in order to protect his community from violent and dark forces. In one evening, RawMaterials will touch upon the bond between human sensitivity and an unhinged man-made monstrous creation striving for autonomy and acceptance. RawMaterials swell into the shape of an interwoven tangle of human-like limbs, unleashing a corporeality either pulsating with life or artificially composed. Various sentient entities gather in a choreography with a gesture of defiance, a sense of belonging, or a need to wrestle with forced submission to the common interest. And eventually turning against its creators, as the traditional narratives tell us.

Justyna Chaberek is an artist and singer, working collaboratively in various fields, focusing on poetry, abstract electronic music, and theater. She lives and works in Berlin.

Klara Jakes is a Paris-based artist of Czech/German origin. In her work, she focuses on sculpture in relation to subcultural visual codes and conceptual approaches.

Lumír Nykl is a Czech curator living in Prague.

Sinking Sideways: René (circus performance)

Sunday November 19, 2023 at 4 PM

René is common ground - a rectangular manege, in which two dance acrobats explore freedom within one central theme: the everlasting principle of rebounding. Both concisely and playfully, René evolves from elemental to acrobatic movement mechanics into depth and back, emphasising the joy of finding variation and diversity in what could seem to stay the same. Both performers have their designated and equal places in this tightly woven score which does not allow for any mistakes. Beyond all virtuosity, René reveals the human aspects of what it means to truly collaborate, to share focus, to synchronise, to practice solidarity in togetherness, to strive, to endure, to accomplish and fail never alone but always together; to make something work out, be it skilfully submitting to an impossible system of counts or embracing the race toward the finishing line of a meticulously choreographed movement score.

In cooperation with Zeit für Zirkus: La Nuit du Cirque in Germany.

Tickets available only at the doors 30 minutes before the performance.
