Old Cock (theatre performance in English by mala voadora)

Saturday August 9, 2025 at 7 pm

Sunday August 10, 2025 at 7 pm

The “Barcelos Rooster” is Portugal’s most popular souvenir, sold as a knick-knack, key ring, fridge magnet, postcard… In Cantar de Galo, he comes to life. Haughty, he tells us his story: he saved a pilgrim wrongly accused of a crime from the gallows. But he’s not satisfied, he demands explanations and Salazar, the dictator who kept Portugal in the grip of fascism for 40 years, comes to the rescue. This is how the rooster learns that, after all, he is part of the manipulative nationalist fiction that Salazar invented. The Rooster recovers his vocation as a vigilante and sets out to take revenge on the populist Salazar. Cantar de Galo is a play written for Jorge Andrade by the American writer Robert Schenkkan, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award.

DESCENT (A Ritual Performance)

Monday September 1, 2025 at 6 PM

Thursday September 4, 2025 at 6 PM

Friday September 5, 2025 at 6 PM

A modern interpretation of the ancient Sumerian myth of Inanna's descent into the underworld.

A contemporary performance piece by Riley Davidson, with Composer Moritz Ebert and Sound design by Juan Cernadas.

DESCENT is a live performance where flesh, sound, and silence remembers what logic forgot. A performer undresses the myths they inherited. A cellist mourns. A sound designer builds the atmosphere live, breath by breath. As we descend into the collapse of the empire, like Inanna, we must shed the versions of ourselves rooted in colonial ways of thinking. A container for the wordless rage and grief of our own complicity. A ritual for untangling the mess of the generations past. There is no way forward without descent.

DIERICH-MATZKE | RAMM | MERENDA - MUTTIKAN (performance)

Saturday October 11, 2025 at 7 PM

Sunday October 12, 2025 at 7 PM

Neither kinky parties nor Beyoncé have succeeded in cracking the hard core of the millennia-old Roman Catholic tradition—a tradition that continually legitimises itself through the repeated performance of rituals. A tradition that systematically excludes, among others, women and queers. But now we say: enough with the Vatican – it’s time to open the Muttikan.

MUTTIKAN appropriates the Roman Catholic Mass as a performative format and develops a secular counter-model to it. Marco Merenda, Linda Lou Dierich-Matzke, and Christopher Ramm guide the audience through experiences that mischievously sneak new meanings into the actions and proceedings of the Mass. Catholic rituals and liturgical choreographies are translated on three interconnected levels: ritual-symbolic, content-based, and spatial-choreographic.
