This time we embark on a journey of no return; a boat trip to the Heart of Darkness of the art of entertaining. Let's follow the river and go to Heligoland to sink together! Curated by stage director, cellist and performer David Fernández, this project joins together different artists and disciplines to bring into play the contradictions of our modern society.

SLOVENIA BLOOD STORIES by mala voadora (theatre play)
Friday June 16, 2023 at 7:30 PM
Pedro Moldão (Portugal) and Miranda Trnjanin (Slovenia/Bosnia) did a genetic test. They investigated their past, from their parents to the relatives that lived hundreds of years ago. Now, on the stage, they will try to understand where their personal stories have crossed. They will speak about migrations, trade routes, war and peace agreements. BLOOD STORIES is a biographic show, where two artists fictionalise about the past in order to better tell their story. To tell us about love and betrayal, baby exchange, family rivalries, long journeys. To tell us about what brings us together.

DINING ROOM TALES by mala voadora & Xan Coleman (theatre play)
Saturday June 17, 2023 at 7:30 PM
In Dining Room Tales, Jorge Andrade prepares a meal and shares it with the audience that surrounds him at the table. While he does this, he tries to explain who he is, what’s his story, not expecting this story to sound less than extraordinary - something not hard to achieve as, in fact, his story merges with the theater that he creates.
DINING ROOM TALES is an original project created by Xan Coleman, artistic director of A is for Atlas, and has been traveling the world. After seeing Moçambique, Xan Coleman invited Jorge Andrade to conceive the Portuguese edition of DINING ROOM TALES. This is a work that is clearly set apart from the traditional theater devices, where the limits between those who do and those who see, those who speak and those who listen, the performative event and real life, are clearly marked. In these somewhat banal circumstances - to be seated around the table, we explore what belongs to a slow time, to openness, to closeness, to intimacy. The “slow movement” practices were initiated with food, opposing slow food to fast food; in this process we go back to the social practice of a meal to get closer to the idea of “slow theater”. Each performance is unique and unrepeatable.

Rafaele Andrade / Adam Pultz: Sound Energy Harvest (concert)
Thursday & Friday June 29 & 30, 2023 at 5:30 PM
With Sound Energy Harvest, Rafaele Andrade and Adam Pultz tap into the vibrational energy created by their electro-acoustic string instruments Knurl and FAAB to power light sources such as LEDs attached to fibreoptic cables. The outcome is a two-part performance in which illumination enters into complex relations with a Rafaele and Adam’s timbrally and dynamically extended musical practice.
With the transduction of sonic and musical gesture into light, Sound Energy Harvest offers an artistic perspective on scales of energy production and consumption. Although the sonic blasts from Knurl and FAAB reach significant volume levels, the energy produced is, at best, modest. From an artistic perspective, this is a creative challenge. From the speculative perspective of a global economy weaning itself of fossil fuel-based sources of energy, the burning question remains to which extent we will be able to power an energy-intensive society with less dense energy sources.
Program:
17:30: Doors
18.00-19.30: Charging session
Rafaele and Adam will perform two solo sets, in which the electricity created will be stored on super capacitors.
20:00-21:00: Concert.
Here, light is produced from real-time sound energy harvest, as well as from the electricity stored during the previous charging session.
Line-up: Rafaele Andrade: Knurl, Adam Pultz: FAAB (feedback-actuated augmented bass)
Kindly supported by INM – Initiative Neue Musik, Danish Composer’s Society, Fonds podium Kunst, and Instrument Inventors Initiative.
