Berlin Improvisers Orchestra
The Berlin Improvisers Orchestra (Ber.I.O.) was founded by Saxophonist Anna Kaluza in June 2010, with the help of “accoucheurs” Alison Blunt & Ricardo Tejero from the London Improvisers Orchestra. The musicians conduct pieces using hand signals based on the conduction concept of American composer and improviser Butch Morris, these gestures are used and expanded upon by improvising orchestras worldwide.
A stellar cast of Berlin-based improvising artists, Ber.I.O. includes an international line-up (Mexico, Spain, Japan, England, USA) and has performed with guests such as the actress Eva Mattes (“Geträumte Sätze” I + II), pianist Alexander v. Schlippenbach as well as with members of the Tokyo Improvisers Orchestra and the London Improvisers Orchestra.

Monika Błaszczak & Elias Brown - Vexations (performance)
Saturday March 7, 2026 from 10 AM to 10 PM
Vexations is a durational performance by musician Elias Brown and dance artist Monika Błaszczak, based on Erik Satie’s enigmatic composition, written around 1893-1894. The score consists of a brief musical theme to be repeated 840 times, after the composer’s suggested preparation “in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities.” Composed during Satie’s involvement with the esoteric Ordre du Temple de la Rose + Croix, the piece remained unpublished during his lifetime, only to be rediscovered and premiered by John Cage in 1963. Brown and Błaszczak reimagine Vexations as a 12-hour work for solo dancer and piano. Satie’s deceptively simple, wandering theme is set against a minimalist choreography where the recursive repetition of a single movement pattern generates slow, granular evolution. The work invites audiences into a dense present tense, challenging the stability of our perception in the face of an increasingly fluid reality. Can repetition open a portal to transformation? In homage to Cage’s gesture from the premiere performance, audience members will receive a one euro refund of their ticket cost per hour spent in attendance.

Between Heart and Hole is a queer dance solo that explores what pornography doesn’t show: the failing, the humour, and the messy search for connection. Through movement, projected pornographic imagery, and spoken word, the piece uses a post-pornographic lens to question how we see bodies, power, and desire—where the body becomes both protest and poetry. At its core? The butthole, offered here not for shock, but as a site of vulnerability, humour, and radical honesty. This solo gently unravels the defences we build around love and intimacy. It offers a space to feel, to witness, and maybe to rethink what it means to be seen.
Between Heart and Hole is an invitation to question not only porn, but how we love and protect ourselves. It gently asks the audience to sit with discomfort and maybe see a reflection of themselves in it.
