Jonas Büßecker

In his work, Jonas Büßecker declines the aesthetic moment of tension with a self-evident like consistence. For some years now, he has been interested in the sphere of activity of this moment - the gap between space and body. Since 2016, Büßecker (born in 1990) has lived and worked in Berlin. From 2011 to 2016 he studied art therapy in he south of Germany.
A year after he became a student of UdK Berlin (Universität der Künste), he joined the class of Karsten Konrad in 2017. As a recipient of the Hanke-Förster-Preis 2019 and a finalist of Berlin Masters 2019, his work was showcased in various exhibitions at both, national and international levels. Büßeckers‘ work has been presented at Kunsthalle West in Lana / Italy, Galerie Mazzoli in Berlin, Emerging Lines a European exhibition project in Berlin and in town hall gallery of Paduli near Naples/Italy (residency). He addresses the dependence between space and body in large-scale installations and body-related sculptures. The situations he creates are based on a dialectical tension between two opposites: fragile and solid, soft and hard, light and heavy. Fragile, tender and soft fabrics such as feathers, yarn, or cushions encounter raw and severe concrete blocks, steel bars, and hooks. In those confrontations, habitual power-dynamics are changing into its opposite.

This allocation is different in Büßecker‘s work, where it seems like the fragile elements are the ones actually holding up the sculpture and the building materials are the ones who are carried and hold. Movements are integral aesthetics components of his sculptural work, even though you won‘t find anything moving within those pieces. While watching the rigid object, movements might be visible within the imagination of the spectator, an idea of what could happen, invented motions in front of the inner eye. It seems like it is Büßecker‘s objective to understand and make visible what’s always in a state of flux.
